Ayurveda + Coffee

Updated: Mar 16

Note on Coffee…

I have exciting news!

You don’t need to eliminate coffee (or caffeine) altogether in order to be a “healthy" person.

Instead, try and notice how caffeine makes you feel when you consume it.

Your cravings may also be influenced by the season you're in...

SPRING

When spring comes, your body and mind go through a great transformation and both can feel a bit sluggish.

Coffee may fit into this season for you, especially on rainy days.

If you're not a fan of coffee, you could take chai with spice, or forgo caffeine altogether and consume your favorite digestive teas that continue to wake up your body and your mind.

SUMMER

The season of summer is hot + sharp... just like coffee.

For this reason, consider reducing coffee or switching entirely to green tea for a milder effect on your digestion + your mood.

A cooling summer elixir in your rotation could also be helpful: cucumber + mint mocktail.

FALL

Coffee is usually too stimulating in this very windy season.

Fall is erratic which can destabilize and contribute to a racing mind. In lieu of caffeine, consider a digestive tea or substitute your coffee altogether with homemade hot cocoa which could provide density and groundedness during this season.

WINTER

The time of winter is incredibly drying... just like coffee.

Try reducing caffeine, switching to warm lubricating teas, or continue with your nourishing homemade hot cocoa in lieu of caffeine.

The most important piece to remember is...

How do you feel after you consume caffeine?

Notice and decide what's best for YOU in each moment.

You see, it depends.

Noticing helps you understand what's best (for YOU) from one season to the next, or when to perhaps move on and leave a habit behind that is no longer serving you.

Instead of all or nothing ... notice and feel.

And from that quiet place inside, make a choice that feels best for you.
